What Makes Red Wine Cups Special?

Red wine cups are only glazed on the rim of the cup to ensure a comfortable lip experience while drinking your favourite red. They are kiln-fired to a high temperature making them food safe. Drinking a cheaper bottle of red from these red wine cups will enhance the taste of your wine enough that it will taste like you spent more money!

I purchased these as a gift for my aunt, she absolutely loved them! A beautiful set, both to look at and hold.

Why Unglazed?

Pouring and swirling red wine into your new red wine cup accelerates the “breathing” process of red wine. Usually, a bottle of red wine is uncorked a couple of hours before drinking and decanted to allow the wine to aerate and open up. When using these cups your red wine is exposed to the unglazed clay which speeds up the aeration process and also reduces the wine’s acidity. This gives you a smoother, more enjoyable wine to drink!

Red Wine Cup Care and Handling

Caring for your Red Wine Cup is different than regular pottery. Your Red Wine Cup should only be rinsed in hot water and then left to air dry. Never put it in the dishwasher or wash it with soap and water. The unglazed clay inside the cup will retain residual soap and make your wine taste funny. Drying the cup with a dish towel will leave lint behind. If you are a fan of bold, full-bodied red wines your cup may take on a patina that will help season your red wine cup further. Enjoy your red wine cup.
